Our commitment to sustainability

At MELT we are acutely aware of the potential environmental impact of our operations, from the materials we use, to the produce that we source, to the design of the infrastructure at our events.

Our sustainable practices policy is continually evolving, but here are just some of the ways in which we are working to mitigate the impact of our own activities, and contribute on an on-going basis to a more sustainable future for us all.

Responsible packaging & recycling

In order to reduce our single use plastic usage, we use organizations such as Vegware, and Packaging Environmental, to source most of our event packaging. Both suppliers use recycled cardboard and plastic to manufacture their products, and we aim to recycle up to 80% of all packaging after use on site.

As of 2025 we have started a re-usable cup scheme at our events, where customers pay a set fee for a cup to be used for the duration of the event. This reduces our single use plastic consumption massively. We aim to use 30% of the profits to offset some of our carbon emissions.

Carpooling for the climate

We make every effort to eliminate unnecessary and inefficient use of vehicles. Car-Pooling is promoted to all staff members and is also financially incentivised through a higher rate per mile payment, raising incrementally with the number of staff members in the vehicle. Wherever possible, car-pooling will be implemented, and if this is not possible public transport will be used.

Carbon neutrality

From 2025 onwards we have pledged to plant at least one tree for each member of staff we employ each year.

We have partnered with Ecologi to plant trees on our behalf around the world, and we have also invested money into three different carbon avoidance projects, to offset some of our transport related CO2 emissions.

Our virtual forest, which provides information about the trees we have planted, and the carbon avoidance projects we have invested in, can be viewed here:  https://ecologi.com/meltcatering

Charity partners

We have strict portion control and purchase management systems to ensure we do not over-order unnecessary stock. However, at all our events, we give away up to 80% of all perishable goods that cannot be re-used to local charities such as Fareshare.

https://fareshare.org.uk/ - FareShare aims to relieve food poverty and reduce food waste across the UK. It does this by obtaining good-quality surplus food from the food industry that would otherwise have gone to waste and sending it to frontline charities and community groups across the UK

  • Using eco-friendly cleaning products. We use Ecover’s plant-based, biodegradable cleaning products at our events which ensures environmental safety even if there if an issue with our water waste onsite.

  • We strive towards water & electricity efficiency by having onsite technicians on call 24/7 to ensure there is no unnecessary wastage across site.

  • From 2025, we aim to implement our ‘Recycling Bag for a Drink’ policy in which we offer our guests a free drink token if they are able to litter pick and fill one of our recycling bags to the brim.
